The Devon Horse Show started today: May 24, 2012-June 3, 2012. This traditional event dating back to 1896, benefits the Bryn Mawr Hospital each year. It has become the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed competition in the United States. Devon is named the fourth best horse show in the U.S. by the North American Riders Group and hosts two Show Jumping Team Observation Events. The first is the Grand Prix 8pm May 31st, and the second is the Idle Dice Stakes on June 2nd at 4pm. These two events help determine the show jumping team at the London Olumpics!
From the light blue stands, the horse and carriage, world class hunter jumpers, pony hunters, frolicking ladies in fancy hats, an old-time fair, and famous tea sandwiches… when I think of the Devon Horse Show, I think of this perfect scene of horses and haberdashery in Pennsylvania. The show just started today and runs through June 3rd. As photographs come in, we will update you will some fun happenings from this famous National Horse Show. I was lucky enough to compete at this fabulous venue when I rode in the medium pony division, large pony division, and junior hunter division. I even competed in the pony hunt teams (the event where you ride with 2 other riders and dress up in theme along with music in the background) and came in first place on my beloved large pony at the time, Daphne-Doo. You can read my article from last year Here.
Stay tuned, we hear the Hat Contest on Ladies Day is featured Wednesday May 30th… one of our favorite stylist’s Carson Kressley is the judge of this event. We can’t wait to see who wins!

I was lucky enough to go to this show back in college just to watch. At the time, I was afraid of horses, but it has always stuck in my mind. I hope to return one day – maybe to see my daughter jump!
