Miniature horses are the perfect size for…well, anyone. (Especially little ones) My sister and I were introduced to miniature horses at a young age in Estes Park, Colorado. My family and I attended an actual “Miniature Horse Show” one summer and fell madly in love… we fell so fast that we ended up brining one home in the back of our Toyota Landcruiser at the time. Yes, we drove through Rocky Mountain National Park through the hair-pinned turns with “Munchkin” in the back, whinnying at the top of his lungs the whole way. His head hung over the seat where Amy and I were sitting in the back. We would sneak him peppermints the whole ride to keep him calm. The best part of the trip was driving through Arby’s…. The cashier shouted: “IS THAT A HORSE IN YOUR CAR!?!!” We burst in tears laughing so hard. Well, it was little Munchkin that inspired us to get more miniature horses (they are like chips.. you can’t just have one!) At one point we had a herd of mini horses… a total of 5!
Today, we have proudly have “Pepper” a.k.a. Pecan Grove’s Peppy’s Perfect Lady. (Yes, they are miniature horses but they always come with the LONGEST Show names I’ve ever seen!)
Pepper is the star-spotted dappled grey mare. I picked her out on the internet when I was just 11 years old or so. She even won National Champion Solid Color Mares one year.
We also have Fonzi. “Fox Meadow Farm’s Maui Wowie” He is the chestnut stallion. He’s only 28″ tall, but thinks he is 18 hands.
My mother took some stunning photos of my nieces and nephew down on the new farm in Ocala, Florida. Enjoy the pictures and I hope you are inspired!
Gosh, they are just the cutest… talk about some little models! 😉 I may be a bit biased… but wouldn’t you agree?!
These are the moments you have to capture, whether it’s photography or creating your story. Life passes by so quickly and remembering the time you first bought your horse, or stepped foot at the horse show where you won your first champion ribbon, don’t lose track of those special moments. The moments like this are memories to live by and cherish forever. The laughs, the smiles, the running and chasing ponies in the pasture until you pass out from exhaustion and do it all over again the next day…Even in a world of technology, it’s always critical to remind yourself to play outside… be a kid again!
That’s my two horse cents for now! Ta Ta!
