Playing a pivotal role throughout human history and sharing a deep connection with those who are fortunate enough to take care of them, horses often steal the screen when they’re able to be part of a great show. This list will exclude things like racing, despite being hugely popular with options for players who visit Melbourne-cup.online for all things racing, this list will instead focus on fictional shows that represent horses instead.
Heartland – A popular one amongst many horse enthusiasts and for good reason, first airing back in 2007 the show is now on its 15th season of running and based on a popular book series. Set in Canada, the show focuses on Amy Fleming and her life on the ranch – with a great supporting cast too, and some character building for the main cast, the main focus of the show is certainly on the horses that feature and is why it has been often recommended as the best show on TV with horses in mind.
Yellowstone – Serving as something of a revival for Kevin Costner’s career, and one of his best performances too, Yellowstone is a drama focused on a fictional ranch in Montana and the fight to keep it a ranch against outside influences of housing estates and casinos. Whilst the primary focus of the show isn’t so much on the horses, there are plenty of fantastic scenes that depict various forms of horse riding, horses in competition, and training too. It’s been credited for being one of the most accurate portrayal on screen for cattle herding, ropework, and rodeo and it was essential for the cast to know their way around the saddle for the show and that really shows with any scene on horseback or that features horses.
Free Rein – A Netflix original that ran from 2017 to 2019 with 32 episodes, the show depicted a teenage girl who spend the summer away from home in which she was able to build a special bond with a wild horse named Raven. Whilst the show did receive some mixed feedback, it has been credited with showing the types of bonds that can be built between a person and a horse, something that is often only really experienced by those who spend a lot of time around their horse.
Not only have shows helped to show the bond, but many movies have before too – some fans were met with the sad news recently that Viggo Mortensen’s horses that he kept after filming Lord of the Rings had sadly passed away, but just goes to show how strong the bond can be between a star and their on screen partners too.
