It’s back! The Breeders’ Cup ‘Art of the Horse’ Exhibition has returned once again with a colorful herd that can be spotted across San Diego! These 7 ft. tall horses are replicas of the horse atop the Breeders’ Cup trophy – a bronze reproduction of the original Torrie horse. The pop up exhibition is meant to generate excitement leading up to the Breeders Cup World Championships this November 3-4 at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Talented local artists get to use their imagination to bring a personality and vibrance to each horse, transforming them with their own unique style.
Let’s take a look at a few of these stunning works of art…
Meet “Flower Power.” Artist Christie Beniston brings her horse to life with intricate mosaic. This blooming beauty can be found at Fairmont Grand Del Mar.
Artist Mark Harmon used his horse to create a mural of Del Mar complete with a beautiful sunset! Catch this showstopper at the Cardiff Seaside Market.
Artist Daphne Gaylord took a whimsical approach with “Buttercup” featuring a hand-painted woman hanging on to the horse and her hat. “Buttercup” can be spotted looking fabulous at L’Auberge Del Mar, strutting in style with a Christine A. Moore fascinator!
We spy Victor Espinoza! This jockey is hanging with “Juan Enrique,” the bright and beautiful horse by Patty McGeeney who found his home at The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
Artist Bonnie Chance gets into the Where the Surf Meets the Turf spirit with her horse, depicting ocean life in a beautiful underwater scene.
“Gold Coast” is a 24K gold leafed horse by Cheryl Pelly. This gorgeous guy can be found looking very proud of himself at SeaGrove Park at the Del Mar Beach area!
Bright and colorful “Polly” was created by local artist Remington Weinger. “Polly” can be found strutting proudly at the Flower Hill Mall.
Ready to find them all? There are 20 Torrie horse works of art scattered around San Diego waiting for you! Get out and find them, and get excited for #BC17!
