Held annually on the first Saturday in May, The Kentucky Derby is an iconic longstanding tradition in horse racing held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Due to COVID-19, The 2020 Kentucky Derby has moved for the first time to September 5, 2020. While the horses are the centerpiece of the event, the style and socializing come secondary and fill the track with ostentatious hats and ‘derby’ wear. Whether you attend the Derby on-site, or if you’re one to host annual Derby parties, dressing up for the occasion is a must! We’re a huge fan of Derby-themed parties not only during the Kentucky Derby but they also make great birthday party themes or even zoom parties!
Recently I’ve had a shift in life perspective along with style because of the birth of my boy and girl twins, Sage and Sullivan, on July 4, 2019. Sage and Sullivan were born at 28 weeks July 4, 2019. My style perspective now includes lots of coordinating between boy and girl matching looks along with coordinating my outfits with their looks, as well.
Who knew that shopping for boy + girl twins could be so tough? Try shopping in both girl and boy departments trying to find matching sizes and it leaves you running back and forth all over the store. Well, luckily I’ve found a few good websites that merchandise to coordinate boy girl looks right on the main page.
Some of our favorite children’s shops include:
This year, we’ve decided to take on the theme of dressing in coordination with my baby boy and girl twins. We will be watching the Derby from our family’s farm in Ocala, Florida this year, and this is how we’ll be celebrating… complete with our miniature horses and barn backdrop!
I always love pink for the girls and blue for the boys, and when I found this dress that combined both blues and pinks perfectly, I fell in love! It is the perfect coordinating equestrian boy/girl twin “mommy and me” look. While I do love being in Louisville for The Kentucky Derby, this year our family will be celebrating from Ocala. Some horses that I have my eye on this year are Authentic trained by Bob Baffert and Honor AP trained by John A. Shirreffs.
